67 Kennels of hope: Help Dogs in Need this Mandela Day!

FOUR PAWS announces donation of 67 kennels

18.7.2024

Cape Town, July 18, 2024 – In a heartfelt tribute to Nelson Mandela's legacy of service and community upliftment, global animal welfare FOUR PAWS is proud to announce the donation of 67 kennels and essential care packages for dogs to Mdzananda Animal Clinic - a veterinary council registered, nonprofit organisation animal hospital in Khayelitsha. This initiative and partnership exemplifies the spirit of giving and the profound impact that collective efforts can have on animal welfare.

Mandela Day, celebrated annually on July 18th, encourages individuals and organisations to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to community service, honoring the 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted to fighting for social justice. This year, FOUR PAWS has taken a significant step to improve the lives of dogs in need, recognising that animal welfare is a crucial component of community well-being.

The 67 kennels, symbolising Mandela's 67 years of public service, were meticulously crafted to provide a safe and comfortable shelter for dogs who have been exposed to harsh weather conditions and inadequate living environments. Each kennel is built to last, ensuring that the dogs have a secure place to call home for years to come.

"We are appreciative of the collaboration with FOUR PAWS on this Mandela Day Project. The donation of 67 kennels will make an enormous impact in the lives of 67 Khayelitsha dogs who will now have a warmer, safer and more comfortable life," said Marcelle du Plessis Fundraising, Communications & Programmes Executive at Mdzananda animal clinic.

In addition to the kennels, essential care packages were also distributed. These packages include food, blankets, and basic medical supplies, and an educational guide on how to be a responsible pet owner providing immediate relief and care for the dogs. The goal is not only to improve their physical health but also to show them love and compassion, which are fundamental to their rehabilitation and overall well-being.

Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS, expressed her gratitude for the community’s support and involvement. "This project would not have been possible without the generosity and dedication of our volunteers and donors. Mandela Day reminds us of the power of unity and the profound change we can create when we come together. By providing these kennels and care packages, we hope to make a lasting impact on the lives of these animals and inspire others to take action for those in need."

FOUR PAWS South Africa continues to advocate for animal rights and welfare through various initiatives and educational programs. This Mandela Day Project is a testament to their unwavering commitment to creating a world where humans treat animals with respect, empathy, and understanding.
