As the cold and wet weather creeps up on us, we tend to bundle up tight with our pets in warm blankets in our homes. Sadly, the same is not true for all companion dogs. This Mandela Day we want to help by providing them with proper shelter, warmth and care.

This Mandela Day, in collaboration with Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, we have a heartfelt mission: to provide 67 kennels and essential care packages to dogs in need. These resources are vital to improving shelter conditions and well-being for the beloved pets in the community.

Working closely with Mdzananda, we've identified responsible pet owners in the community who prioritise their pets' health despite their lack of financial resources. They diligently attend clinic appointments, ensuring their pets are sterilised, healthy and vaccinations are up to date. Despite their best efforts, these committed owners simply don't have the means to provide their companion animals with their own kennels to protect them from the harsh elements and have had to resort to makeshift shelters from whatever materials are available.

Each of these dogs will also receive a care package, complete with a warm blanket, a bag of nutritious food, a safe collar, and preventative tick and flea treatments.
