Ways to #EatKinder This Holiday Season

FOUR PAWS provides tips for cruelty-free holiday meals to support a more compassionate lifestyle

25.11.2024

Cape Town, 25 November 2024 – As the holiday season approaches, FOUR PAWS South Africa is encouraging everyone to celebrate mindfully by making kinder food choices through their #EatKinder campaign. This initiative, part of the broader #LiveKinder movement, promotes eating habits that are both environmentally sustainable and compassionate toward animals, offering practical steps for a cruelty-free holiday season.

"Holiday celebrations are a time of generosity and connection," says Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS South Africa. "Through #EatKinder, we’re inviting everyone to extend that compassion to animals by choosing plant-based options and reducing their meat consumption over the festive period. Every meal is an opportunity to make a difference."

Choosing plant-based foods not only supports animal welfare but also contributes to lower carbon emissions, a reduction in water use, and a decrease in deforestation. FOUR PAWS highlights that small dietary shifts can lead to significant environmental and ethical benefits. Adopting a #LiveKinder lifestyle, which includes making kinder food choices, helps build a sustainable future for all.

Ways to #EatKinder this holiday season:

  1. Go plant-based for your main meal: Whether it’s a plant-based roast, stuffed butternut, or a hearty vegetable stew, there are numerous delicious alternatives to traditional meat dishes that offer flavour and satisfaction.
  2. Support local plant-based brands: Opt for products from local businesses that prioritise sustainable, cruelty-free ingredients, helping to grow a more compassionate food system in South Africa.
  3. Create festive, meat-free side dishes: From vibrant salads to roasted vegetables, plenty of side dishes offer variety, nutrition, and taste without animal products.
  4. Experiment with plant-based baking: The holidays aren’t complete without desserts. FOUR PAWS encourages home chefs to try egg substitutes or dairy-free options for cookies, cakes, and other treats, bringing kinder choices to the dessert table.

FOUR PAWS provides resources and recipe ideas on their website to help individuals transition toward plant-based options over the holidays and beyond. Together, we can create a world where animals are treated with kindness, and the holiday season is a perfect time to start.
