Meet Caragh Murphy
FOUR PAWS South Africa's first Youth Ambassador!
My name is Caragh Olivia Murphy. I am 11 years old and in grade 5 at Sweet Valley Primary School.
My dream is to travel around the world and help animals. I started supporting FOUR PAWS when I heard about the work, they do to help all animals, big and small, all over the world. I would like to be a photojournalist one day and use my skills and my determination to fight for animals who can’t fight for themselves.
For my first fundraiser I played my clarinet at my mother’s school function. I only raised R27.00. I made my own sign as I was not yet an ambassador for FOUR PAWS. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.
I then met with Tanya and Fiona at the FOUR PAWS offices in Cape Town. They gave me the Oath to Make Things Right #LionLongevityoath. I took this to all my friends and their parents and the teachers at my school and explained why it was important that they made this oath and signed the pledge.
My next fundraiser and awareness raising campaign was at my school’s Christmas Market. My friends and I made a” Lion feeding game” to encourage people to come to our table to find out about FOUR PAWS and LIONSROCK. We had a chocolate hamper with a LIONSROCK book that we raffled to raise money.
My friends walked around and handed out pamphlets about FOUR PAWS and LIONSROCK while I stayed at the stand and encouraged people to buy raffle tickets and play our game. We made R528.00 this time.
I have now collected many items to sell at car boot sales and will be doing another fundraiser soon. I also plan on leaving a copy of the #LionLongevityOath at our local vet to raise awareness among other animal lovers.
I am waiting to meet with my school principal to see how I can involve my school in raising awareness for animals in need.
I am looking forward to my journey ahead with FOUR PAWS and hope that what I do can make a difference!
Yours in Paws
