Horses are cautious and sensitive animals, highly aware of their surroundings. They are herd animals that develop deep friendships and social relationships. Humans have domesticated and used horses for generations.
While much of their traditional work has been replaced by machinery, in some places, horses, donkeys, and mules are still part of tradition or are needed as the only means of income in poorer countries. Sadly, many suffer from poor working conditions and lack of medical care. There are few true wild horse herds left, but there are feral horse and pony populations, which are mostly wild with possible domesticated ancestry.
FOUR PAWS is supporting to improve the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules in Romania and Jordan and the feral horse populations of the Danube Delta.
